Our Story

How we ended up doing this

We build and repair decks, and most of the people who call us are dealing with one of two things: they want a deck added on that actually fits how they use their yard, or they've got an existing deck that's started to feel unsafe underfoot. We got into this work because most decks in this area get built fast during a home sale and then never looked at again for fifteen years. That's usually about when the problems show up.

By the time you're looking at soft, spongy boards or a railing that wiggles when you lean on it, the fix usually isn't cosmetic anymore, it's structural. We pull the decking to check the joists and ledger board underneath before we tell you what it actually requires, instead of just screwing down new boards over a rotten frame. That's the difference between a repair that lasts a season and one that lasts another decade.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed and Insured

You're covered if something goes wrong on site, not left to sort it out yourself. We can show insurance documents before work starts if you'd like to see them.

Permits Handled

Most deck projects over a certain height or size require a permit in Wisconsin, and skipping that step can cause problems when you sell the house. We handle the paperwork and schedule the inspections.

Clean Jobsite

Deck demolition leaves a lot of scrap lumber and loose fasteners behind, and we don't leave that for you to step on. We haul it out and sweep the site before we call the job finished.

Written Quotes

We measure the site and give you a number in writing, broken out by material and labor. If something changes mid-project, like rot we find once we pull the old boards, we tell you before we do anything about it.

Materials You Choose

Composite costs more up front but skips the yearly staining. Pressure-treated lumber costs less but requires sealing every two to three years to keep water out of the grain. We'll tell you the tradeoffs instead of just picking for you.

Local Crew

Wisconsin's frost depth means footings have to go down further than a lot of national deck guides assume. We build to what actually works in this soil, not a national average.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about how we work and who's doing the job.

How long have you been building decks?
Specific years in business can be confirmed directly with the contractor, but a deck builder's experience shows up most clearly in the details, proper footing depth, correct joist spacing, and code-compliant railings, rather than in a number on a website.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
Some deck builders use an in-house crew for every stage of the job, from footings to final staining, while others subcontract parts like electrical for deck lighting. Ask directly whether the people on site are employees or subcontractors before the project starts.
Can I see photos of past deck projects?
Most deck contractors can share photos of completed projects, including examples similar in size or material to what's being planned, such as composite decking or multi-level builds. Ask to see examples of the specific type of project under consideration.
Why hire a smaller deck builder instead of a large home improvement company?
A smaller deck builder usually has the owner or lead carpenter directly involved in the framing and finish work, rather than a project being handed off between sales reps and rotating crews. That often means fewer miscommunications about the specifics of a build.
Where is your business based?
Majestic Deck Solutions is based in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, and serves surrounding communities within roughly a fifty mile radius, including Madison, Sun Prairie, and Verona.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Deck construction in Wisconsin is busiest in spring and early summer, so booking four to six weeks ahead during that window is common, while fall and winter often have more open scheduling for repair and design work.
Do you clean up the site after the job is done?
A completed deck project should leave the site free of scrap lumber, cut-offs, and loose fasteners like screws and joist hanger nails, which are a real hazard for kids and pets if left in the yard.
What happens if something gets damaged on my property during the work?
A licensed and insured deck contractor carries liability coverage for damage that happens on the job site, such as a delivery truck damaging a driveway or a tool damaging siding. Ask to see proof of insurance before work begins so this is covered if it comes up.
Will you finish a deck that another contractor started or abandoned?
Taking over a partially built deck is common, though it usually starts with an inspection of the existing footings and framing to check they meet code before any new work gets added on top of them.
How can I tell if deck work was done correctly?
Check that footings were poured below the local frost line, joists are spaced correctly for the decking material, typically 16 inches on center for lumber, and that railings meet the 36 to 42 inch height requirement with baluster gaps under four inches. A contractor should be able to walk through these details at any point during the job, not just at the end.
